Vacation, and Erin Condren Day!!

I am SO excited to share this with everyone! Sorry I've been gone for a few days, I was in fabulous Galena, IL with my BFF where we shopped and hung out and enjoyed the scenery :)

We stayed at the Irish Cottage Boutique Hotel and it was AMAZING! So amazing that I have been searching for the bedding they use since I got back. If you have the opportunity to go to Galena definitely stay here :)
This was the view from our room, GORGEOUS!

Hanging out in Ireland :)

Pointing the way to Kildare!

We had to get this shot of me in my Mini Cooper because I will no longer have it come September. I'm getting the new Mini Cooper Countryman, but I will be sad to leave my tiny Mini behind :(

While we were shopping we went to a local used bookstore and I found this and freaked out!
Sorry it's blurry! I am teaching The Little Prince with my 7th grade this year, and this 1943 copy has full color pictures inside. What a treasure! I am so excited to be able to show this to them as we read it :)

Ok, now on to the excitement that awaited me when I returned home!

If you haven't heard of Erin Condren, go there right now! Her stuff for teachers is absolutely amazing!

It was wrapped so cute!!

Here is the custom desk pad I got, with a custom color band, my name, and school, with places for notes, doodles, and a to do section!

Here is my favorite thing. I actually wrote a paper in college about how much I love my planners, and the anticipation I would have before getting mine from middle school through college. Every year at school I still get excited about the prospect of a smooth, new, empty planner that I can fill! I love the fact that the cover is sturdy and laminated, and totally personalized!

Here is the snap in ruler!

This was a total free surprise, little gift tags I can put on anything!

So cute!

Inside cover

Birthday lists to keep track of my students!

Checklist! I will use this for turning in progress reports, permission slips, portfolio slips, etc!!

Long term planning pages!

I LOVE this. Full calendar on the left and then a page to write notes in more detail about what is going on that month!

Planning pages, and TONS of them!

This was amazing. I had no idea what was going to be on the stickers, but Erin Condren apparently talked to a teacher. Assembly, IEP, Duty, Staff Meeting, Furlough days...

Benchmarking, Library, Testing, Ahh!! So exciting!

Folder in the back

Awesome calendar at the end

and finally customized Notepads!

This was my "big splurge" for the summer, and I was so excited about it! (I was not asked to write this blog by Erin Condren by the way, I'm just so excited about this product) :)

    1. Did you like it? I thought the bedding was to die for, so comfortable! :) We've also stayed at The Goldmoor, but it was a little far away from town. Great for couples though!

Before the School Year Begins...

I decided that before I can start posting about what I'm doing this year, I needed to share some of my favorite strategies from last year that went really well with the students. I was completely inspired by Kelly Gallagher after reading devouring all of his books at the beginning of the school year! I had the opportunity to go to a Kelly Gallagher workshop at Judson this spring, and it was absolutely amazing! He was so nice when I went up to him (I was terrified and starstruck), and even wrote "You're Welcome" on this piece of paper, because my students actually asked me to THANK HIM for changing the way we read novels in class.  Students + asked me + to say thank you to an author + about school stuff = UTOPIA! Here are some of my abbreviated notes from the day: His TOP Points: Kids should write 4X more than you can physically grade  Students suffer from word poverty. Must get students reading more in order to be exposed to vocabulary. We ne

Writing Notebook: Finishing up "Write Ideas" and first Invitation: AAAWWUBBIS!

Happy Monday!! Today I am continuing on with the Writer's Notebook! Last time I left off, students had just finished their "100 Things I Love". After that, students completed their writing territories, which I got from Nancie Atwell's book   Lessons That Change Writers.  We spent the first day discussing writing territories out loud, going through the list in detail, so that students had ideas of what to write about. I told them to think of it like the caption for a picture. One to two sentences that could become something more. Students had to complete this for homework. We also completely numbered our table of contents so that we could add in sections and start working in other parts of the notebook.  Students wrote their writing territories on these pages. Then we moved on to the Writer's Eye (I). Students had to place terms that described them within their "I" or around their "Eye". I created my o
